We focus these research areas on technology and big data analytics, FinTech, digital currencies and marketing analytics in response to the growing significance of automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Under the umbrella of Henley Business School’s Centre for Global Business Enterprise and Cloud Analytics, you will develop cutting-edge knowledge that will position you at the forefront of your field, e.g. smart cities, cryptocurrencies and Internet-of-Things (IoT). With Malaysia being at the forefront of Islamic finance, we also undertake research supervision in Islamic banking and finance with a focus on sustainable finance and financial inclusion. What to do next?

You must express your interest in studying for a PhD with us by sending your CV and an initial research proposal (about 500 words) on the topic that you are thinking of exploring in your PhD to This email address is being protected from spambots.   1. What are you going to research: The main research question.
  2. Why you think that an answer to this question is important: The relevance of the topic from an academic viewpoint.
  3. How you will answer the question: The main methodology applied.

Meaningful answers to these questions will enable us to put you in touch with any academic staff with interests and expertise in your subject area, and for you to work with them to develop your proposal into an original research project that will move your field forwards. Once a supervisor and suitable research topic have been identified, we will encourage you to submit an application for admission to the PhD programme.

Minimum upper second-class (2:1) Bachelor’s degree (honours) and Master’s degree (relevant to the discipline) or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government, acceptable to the University

IELTS: 7.0 overall, with no element below 6.0

The PhD is a three to four-year full-time programme, but it can also be completed part-time over five to six years.

Students can begin their PhD at any time of the year. It is most common to commence studies at the start of the normal academic year in late September.

There are no application deadlines. However, to allow time for us to process your application and ensure you have time to source funding (if required), we recommend that you apply by the following dates:

  • Malaysian applicants: No later than two months before you wish to start the programme.
  • International applicants: No later than four months before you wish to start the programme.

Malaysians: RM 27,000 per annum
International Students: RM 33,000 per annum

Malaysians: 45% discount on full-time fee
International Students: 45% discount on full-time fee
