THE BASICS
As an International student you will need to apply for a student pass to study in Malaysia. UoRM will begin the application processes for your student visa after you have accepted our unconditional offer and once you have submitted the payment and all required documents to us
Please DO NOT book your flight or make any travel arrangements until your student visa is released.
Due to visa restrictions on entry to Malaysia, incoming new international students should not book any trips without prior discussion and approval from the UoRM International Student Office.
If you already have valid Student Pass from another school/institution and would like to pursue your studies with UoRM, please contact UoRM International Student Office for assistance.
In order to be granted a student visa, it is compulsory for international students in Malaysia to be medically insured based on the following requirements:
- The medical insurance plan must be purchased locally. Click here for the insurance package information.
- The medical insurance plan must be valid throughout the period of study
Applicants that requires Single Entry Visa (SEV) prior to entering Malaysia, please visit the nearest Malaysian Embassy / Mission to apply for SEV application after you have received an eVAL. Please refer to the link below to check the list:SEV required countries
All students will be required to undergo a medical screening within 7 days of arrival in Malaysia. Any students who fail to complete this medical will not be issued a Student Pass and will be required to leave the country. STUDENT PASS RENEWAL
You are responsible to contact UoRM International Student Office no later than 10 weeks prior to the current pass expiry date.
Student is required to apply for Special Pass if there is a delay in renewal application that will cost RM100 per application.
Student has to submit:
- A copy of your Passport (Passport must be valid for at least 18 months during the submission)
- Passport data page
- All pages with Visa information.
- Maximum of 2 passport pages per each A4 page
- A copy of your Reading ID card (in colour)
- Payment
STUDENT MOBILITY(DURATION BETWEEN 3 TO 12 MONTHS)
You will need the following:
- One passport size photograph (click here for Passport photo guidelines)
- A copy of your Passport (Passport must be valid for at least 18 months during the submission)
- Passport data page
- All pages with Visa information.

PRE-ENROLMENT: STEPS FOR REGISTRATION ON RISIS PORTAL
Please log on to: www.reading.ac.uk/enrol.
Click: Log into RISIS web portal
Next Screen: Username: (8 digits) Enter your Reading ID number which can be located at the top of your offer email (e.g. 12345678) Password: Enter your date of birth in dd/mm/yyyy format
Next Screen: Create a security password and password prompt (you will always be required to enter this security password when logging onto your assignment submission database RISIS).
Next Screen: You will now find yourself on the enrolment home pages
- ‘What to do next’ – select ‘Online Enrolment’
- Kindly ignore the Course Accommodation ‘Apply for Halls’ option.
- Stage 1 Read and agree the University Rules & Regulations by clicking the red line Click here to enrol online (Rules & Regulations
- Once you have completed this task click Finish and you will revert back to the enrolment home page where a green tick will show completion of Stage 1
Next Steps: Follow this process again for Stage 2 (Personal Details) and Stage 3 (HESA) to complete this first part of your online enrolment.
Scroll part way down the page and click on red line Click here to enrol online (Fees & Sponsorship). You will not be asked for any information, just click continue.
Next Screen: The next page will advise that your online enrolment is complete. Please press FINISH.
PRE-DEPARTURE INFORMATION
Please make sure to bring the following important documents in your hand luggage:
- Original passport and one set of all pages of passport copy
- University of Reading Malaysia’s offer letter
- Original copies of previous academic certificates & transcripts
- Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL) and apply for Single Entry Visa (SEV) for visa required nationalities
- Flight ticket
- Mobile phone
- Personal items
- Medication - it has to be prescribed by your physician. Please carry along the certificate or letter from your physician.
ARRIVAL INFORMATION
Upon arrival, a representative from UoRM will meet you at the student waiting area. He/she will assist you with immigration clearance at the Port of Entry. At the immigration counter, you will be given endorsement for 30 days from the date of entry; please inform the International Office if you get an endorsement for less than 30 days as soon as possible.
The student must attend the medical screening within 7 days of arriving within Malaysia.
POST ARRIVAL INFORMATION
Within 7 days of your arrival please:
- Report to the International Student Office, SWAS at UoRM.
- Submit a copy of your passport details and entry stamp page to International Office.
- Undergo the Post –Medical Screening at EMGS panel clinics. International Office will arrange the transportation for you.
- Upon receiving the Supporting Letter, International Office will notify you to submit your original passport to obtain the Student Pass Sticker at the local immigration office. You will be contacted once your passport is ready for collection.
Once the Student Pass Sticker has been issued, EMGS will issue your i-Kad and Insurance Card and you will be contacted by the International Student Office for the collection.
