When I began looking I was only aware of a few other universities that offered a course in real estate, but the pedigree associated with Reading in the surveying world is second to none. I remember enjoying the fact that the work was not repetitive and that it was manageable.

The modules were incredibly useful and relevant to what I do now. I grasped the Investment Finance modules with not too much difficulty but really struggled on the Planning side - ironically I now have at least 3 planning meetings per week! It just goes to show how your interests and strengths can change.

I really love working abroad and I would fully recommend it - the lifestyle is great and the opportunities to travel and broaden your experience can be extensive. Additionally, you are likely to be exposed to a variety of international clients and professionals you might not encounter in your home country - particularly at an early stage in your career - it has been a really valuable learning experience.

I have a great network of graduates and professionals from Reading; property is a very sociable profession and the network of contacts you have is one of your most valuable assets. I also still keep in touch with my industry mentor (a scheme I found really helpful, particularly whilst applying for graduate positions).

I took A levels in Geography, History and English and particularly enjoyed the City Management module on the human geography course. Visiting Reading, I was very impressed by the Open Day, REP’s high rankings in the league tables and their industry connections. I was convinced that it was the place I'd like to spend the next three years of my life.

The friends that I made at Reading were what really shaped my University experience and moving to London to start work was made easier by the network of friends I had built at Reading. But University wasn't ALL about the social side and I really enjoyed the course. The lecturers were all very friendly people with a genuine passion for what they do and the course was very hands on which helped to develop the practical skill set needed in the real estate industry. My first 6 months at work have flown by and I’ve already been involved in some very exciting projects and been given real responsibility.
