UoRM consult on producing the Pharmacists of the Future

On Wednesday 9 September, the University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) invited members of the local pharmacy community to our new EduCity campus to discuss how best to prepare first-class pharmacy graduates for the healthcare challenges facing society, now and for the future.

The UoRM School of Pharmacy have been consulting stakeholders since 2013 to ensure that they become a centre of excellence in pharmacy education and research. The inaugural stakeholder consultation event at the new campus brought together pharmacists working in the community, hospitals and industry, the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, graduate from our UK campus and patients with chronic illnesses. Discussions were around what could be improved and how the teaching and learning experience at UoRM can produce graduates trained to the high level of professionalism needed for a career in pharmacy.

Dr Samantha Weston, Head of Pharmacy & Academic Director (Teaching & Learning) UoRM said:
“I am delighted that so many colleagues from across the pharmacy community are supporting us to become a centre of excellence and produce the best possible pharmacy graduates.
“We are indebted for the contribution of such a wide cross section of stakeholders and thank them for their commitment and support.”

UoRM’s Pharmacy programmes are currently being assessed for accreditation by the Ministry of Education, the General Pharmaceutical Council in the UK and the Malaysian Pharmacy Board, before launching in January 2016.
