University of Reading Malaysia Head of Law wins Golden Globe Tigers Award

The University of Reading Malaysia’s Head of Law and Associate Professor of Law, Anne Vergis has won The Golden Globe Tigers Award 2018 for Best Professor in Law in Malaysia in the Education Leadership category. Anne was honoured during The Golden Globe Tigers 2018 prize-giving ceremony held at the Pullman City Centre Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 23rd April.

The Golden Globe Tigers Awards, created by Dr R L Bhatia – Founder of World CSR Day and World CSR Congress – and given annually since 2013 in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka, is multi-functional, multi-discipline and industry-focused and recognises ‘tigers’ in marketing, branding, corporate social responsibility (CSR), social innovation, education and academia, across all leadership levels.

The Golden Globe Tiger Awards are awarded based on an intensely-researched process undertaken by a research cell consisting of postgraduates in history and management who produce a shortlist of exemplary individuals and track the record of their achievements. The winners are then selected by a jury comprising senior professionals from across the globe. According to the organisers, the winners exemplify the best in Education Leadership in their respective sectors.

With almost 20 years’ experience in academia, lecturing and engaging in leadership and management of higher education, Anne is a passionate law academic who is dedicated in bringing quality legal education to the classroom and beyond, including promoting holistic education whilst inculcating the need to give back to society. She has published books and actively conducts research into corporate commercial law.

Anne’s contribution to the education sector includes teaching the University of Reading Malaysia’s law and business law modules, chairing the Provost Award Scholarship committee and Star Scholarship selection committee, as well as leading the university’s outreach and CSR initiatives, which includes her current achievement which led to the signing of an MOU between UORM and the Department of Women’s Development (JPW) Johor under the Ministry of Women,  Family and Community Development with the aim to execute and deliver joint projects to positively impact the lives of women and children in Malaysia.

On receiving the award, Anne said, “I am truly humbled and honoured by the award, something I least expected to receive. I believe that imparting good quality holistic education helps empower individuals who in turn could contribute to building a better society and bringing social changes.”
