New, World-Class Pharmacy and Accountancy Degrees Launched at the University of Reading Malaysia

The University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) has today announced that it will offer students two new world-class degrees at its brand new campus in EduCity@Iskandar, from September 2016.

The BSc in Accounting and Finance will be delivered by the highly regarded Henley Business School, which is part of the University, and is ranked #9 in the UK for the quality and content of the course. The degree is designed for students wanting to progress to a career as an accountant, financial analyst or finance director. Upon graduation students will also be able to benefit from exemptions from either ACCA or ICAEW professional qualifications.

The MPharm 2+2 is a four year undergraduate degree that will give students the experience of studying in Malaysia for two years and at Reading in the UK for the final two years. This degree will prepare first-class pharmacy graduates to tackle global healthcare challenges facing society, and can lead to open doors in pharmacy roles in the community, hospitals, in research, government, and the military.

Like all UoRM undergraduate programmes, both the new offerings are honours degrees. Students will be awarded British degrees by the University of Reading, which will give students a head start in their career.  As programme modules mirror content delivered in the UK, all students will have the option to study in Reading in the UK for part of their course.

"Our degree in Accounting and Finance will give students the chance to study for a British degree in the heart of South East Asia," said Dr Susan Rose, Associate Professor and Head of Henley Business School Malaysia. "As a 'destination' business school with a worldwide reputation for excellence, Henley Business School attracts some of the brightest students and I expect our first cohort of students to match this high standard. I encourage students not to miss out on this great opportunity and look forward to welcoming them to EduCity in September."

On the path to accreditation, the UoRM School of Pharmacy has consulted the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, Lembaga Farmasi Malaysia, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), pharmacists working in the community, hospitals and industry, graduates from our UK campus and patients with chronic illnesses, to ensure that the programme can produce graduates trained to the high level of professionalism required for a career in pharmacy.

"I am delighted that from this September we will be able to offer world-class training for students," said Dr Samantha Weston, Head of Pharmacy & Academic Director (Teaching & Learning) UoRM. "I would like to thank colleagues from across the pharmacy community for supporting us to become a centre of excellence and start our journey to create the best possible pharmacy graduates."

Scholarships equivalent to up to a 30% discount on fees are available for high achieving students. The Provost Award also gives 100% scholarships to exceptional students.
