Jules Tan Bun Keat | Foundation Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
Jules has an interdisciplinary background in Linguistics and Cultural Studies. Her academic work engages critically with questions of discourse, identity, representation, and the relationship between language, culture, and power. She has taught English, academic writing, and communication at secondary and tertiary levels, working with students from diverse cultural and disciplinary backgrounds. She also brings industry experience in creative strategy and brand communication, having led content development and campaigns for major consumer brands.
Her broader engagement with accessibility, including collaborative work with Singapore’s National Heritage Board (NHB) on inclusive museum practices, reflects her sustained commitment to cultural participation and inclusion. She is committed to inclusive, student-centred learning that values students’ voices and lived experiences. Rather than treating academic writing as adherence to fixed conventions, she understands it as a socially and ideologically situated process of translating thought into disciplinary discourse, supporting students in developing both academic fluency and an authentic intellectual voice.
She holds an MA in Arts and Cultural Entrepreneurship (with a focus on cultural studies and community development) from the National University of Singapore (NUS), awarded with Highest Distinction, and a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from the University of Nottingham Malaysia.
