Anthony Yap |  Lecturer in Fintech and Machine Learning

firstname lastname Anthony Yap holds a PhD in Economics, an MSc in Finance (Economic Policy), an MA in Economics and International Business, and a BA (Hons) in Accounting. He is also a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) by the Global Association of Risk Professionals. Prior to entering academia, he accumulated over a decade of professional banking experience, specializing in the development, management, and marketing of consumer credit products across various multinational banks, including Citibank, HSBC, and OCBC.

Before joining the University of Reading Malaysia, Anthony was affiliated with Universiti Tun Abdul Razak for six years, holding the position of Assistant Professor and Program Director for the Bachelor of Economics program. As a flexible academician, he has experience teaching various modules in economics, econometrics, finance, data science, and machine learning. His research focuses on productivity and efficiency, banking, financial economics, and institutional economics. He has published extensively (mainly as first author) in various SSCI- and Scopus-indexed journals, including but not limited to Resources Policy, Politická Ekonomie, Journal of Environmental Economics and Policy, and others.

He was also awarded the Dr. Muzafar Shah Habibullah Academic Excellence Award (2019/2020) for the best thesis in the field of economics by Universiti Putra Malaysia, and the High Impact Publication Award (2024) by Universiti Tun Abdul Razak.
