Message to new students joining in July and September 2021

This is a message to new students intending to join us in July and September 2021.

Health and safety is our priority

As with all universities in Malaysia, we are obliged to comply with the latest guidance provided by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and relevant authorities to ensure the health and safety of our university community. Where we are allowed by the MOHE, and where it is safe to do so, we would very much like our students to be able to return to campus for teaching and learning activities.

Current plans for teaching and learning

In the current situation, our plans for teaching and learning are as follows:

  • IFP students starting in July 2021 – the first module will be delivered virtually.  Students are advised to study from home.
  • Undergraduate students starting in July 2021 – the MPU modules will be delivered virtually.  Students are advised to study from home.
  • IFP and undergraduate students starting in September 2021, including students in the above two categories, plus all existing progressing students - at present, the MOHE guidance only allows virtual delivery.  Where we are permitted by MOHE, and where it is safe to do so, we will resume on-campus teaching in a planned and organised manner.  However, students who are unable to come to campus can be reassured that they will continue to be supported through virtual delivery.

A high-quality learning experience – whether on-campus or virtual

The University endeavours to provide students with the best learning experience in order to meet the learning outcomes in their programme of study. In particular, we recognise the importance of having interactive engagement between students and staff, whether that is on-campus or virtual. All of this contributes to the sense of community which is vital to the development of our students.

Key features of our virtual interactive learning format include:

  • Access to the University’s collaboration tools such as BlackBoard, BB Collaborate and Teams
  • Access to lecture materials
  • Participation in live virtual sessions with students and academic staff
  • Virtual sessions with your academic tutors
  • Access to the University’s digital library
  • Overall development of your digital skills in readiness for the digital economy

In addition, students can expect

  • Virtual support provided by our Student Welfare and Academic Services (SWAS) team.
  • Opportunities to participate in virtual student activities

Preparing for your future today

Studying for a degree is a journey that takes at least 3 years, so we encourage students not to unnecessarily delay or postpone their studies.  The global pandemic will continue to be a part of our lives for some time, and students who start their university education now will be well-prepared to take advantage of the opportunities available upon graduation in a few years time when we expect there to have been a global recovery.
