Welcome and thank you for choosing the University of Reading Malaysia for your studies. We are here to help you and to provide you with useful information on getting the most out of your time with us. Pre-arrival information

As an International student you will generally need to apply for a student pass to study in Malaysia. The Ministry of Education in Malaysia via Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) helps with the facilitation of visa processes for international students applying to study in Malaysia. Application processes for your student visa will begin after you have accepted our unconditional offer.

Following is the list of important documents required to enable us to apply for a student visa:

  • Two (2) passport sized photographs with WHITE background (35mm x 45mm)
  • A copy of all pages of your passport including cover page and blank pages. (Passport must be valid for at least 18 months during the submission)
  • A copy of official completion certificate(s) and official academic certificates and/or transcripts of studies previously undertaken. If you send us a document that is not in English or Bahasa Malaysia in support of your application, this document must be accompanied by a full translation into English that can be independently verified by EMGS.
  • Health Declaration Form (LAMPIRAN B). Effective 1st June 2019, all International Students intending to study in Malaysia will only be required to undergo the compulsory Post-Arrival Medical Screening at registered EMGS Panel Clinics within 7 days after entering Malaysia.
  • No-Objection Certificate (NOC) or Letter or Eligibility (LOE): This document is only required if the student is from Sudan or Iran respectively. It has to be applied for by the institution, and can only be collected from the Sudanese and Iranian Embassies in Kuala Lumpur by the institution representatives.
  • Vaccines: If you are coming from a country which is considered to be at a high risk of yellow fever, you will be required to obtain the necessary inoculations before coming to Malaysia. You will be asked to provide your yellow fever vaccination booklet/card before you can clear Immigration at the point of entry.

Please DO NOT book your flight or make any travel arrangements until your visa is released.

Before leaving your home country, please ensure that you have:

  1. Paid the required tuition fees before your arrival. Please refer to your programme offer letter for the total amount.
  2. Confirmed your accommodation.
  3. Obtained Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL). International students from visa required countries are required to proceed to the nearest Malaysian Embassy / High Commission / Consulate of the country to obtain Single Entry Visa. Please be reminded that eVAL is only valid for 6 months.
  4. Provided arrival details i.e. flight itinerary to the International Office to arrange the airport pick up at least 7 working days before your arrival. Please email the details to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  5. Kindly ensure that you have completed your registration on RISIS by following these steps:

    Please log on to:
    Click: Log into RISIS web portal

    Next Screen: Username: (8 digits) Enter your Reading ID number which can be located at the top of your offer email (e.g. 12345678) Password: Enter your date of birth in dd/mm/yyyy format

    Next Screen: Create a security password and password prompt (you will always be required to enter this security password when logging onto your assignment submission database RISIS).

    Next Screen: You will now find yourself on the enrolment home pages

    1. ‘What to do next’ – select ‘Online Enrolment’
    2. Kindly ignore the Course Accommodation ‘Apply for Halls’ option.
    3. Stage 1 Read and agree the University Rules & Regulations by clicking the red line Click here to enrol online (Rules & Regulations
    4. Once you have completed this task click Finish and you will revert back to the enrolment home page where a green tick will show completion of Stage 1

    Next Steps: Follow this process again for Stage 2 (Personal Details) and Stage 3 (HESA) to complete this first part of your online enrolment.

    Scroll part way down the page and click on red line Click here to enrol online (Fees & Sponsorship). You will not be asked for any information, just click continue.

    Next Screen: The next page will advise that your online enrolment is complete. Please press FINISH.

Pre-Departure Information

Please make sure to bring the following important documents in your hand luggage:

  • Original passport and one set of all pages of passport copy
  • University of Reading Malaysia’s offer letter
  • Original copies of previous academic certificates & transcripts
  • Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL)
  • Flight ticket
  • Mobile phone
  • Personal items
  • Medication - it has to be prescribed by your physician. Please carry along the certificate or letter from your physician.

Arrival Information

Upon arrival, a representative from UoRM will meet you at the student waiting area. He/she will assist you with immigration clearance at the Port of Entry. At the immigration counter, you will be given endorsement for 30 days from the date of entry; please inform the International Office if you get an endorsement for less than 30 days as soon as possible.

Post Arrival Information

Within 7 days of your arrival please:

  • Report to the International office or Student Services at UoRM
  • Submit a copy of your passport details and entry stamp page to International Office.
  • Undergo the Post –Medical Screening at EMGS panel clinics. International Office will arrange the transportation for you.
  • Upon receiving the Supporting Letter, International Office will notify you to submit your original passport to obtain the Student Pass Sticker at the local immigration office. You will be contacted once your passport is ready for collection.

Once the Student Pass Sticker has been issued, EMGS will issue your i-Kad and Insurance Card and you will be contacted by the International Office for the collection.
