Purpose of workshop/who it is for/what’s involved:
The research ethics application process often has an unwarranted negative perception among researchers. In this workshop, we will discuss what research ethics is, why we need it and how it is implemented. It will give you a deeper understanding of the ethical issues and processes, and help you develop better ethics applications that will be approved more efficiently. While intended as post-graduate researcher training, it will be highly valuable to anyone involved in human subjects research (from invasive medical procedures to online surveys) and those who will be conducting and supervising final-year undergraduate projects involving human subjects.

Biography
Adrian Willoughby is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Reading Malaysia. Prior to joining UoRM in 2017, he worked in the UK and USA, both teaching and conducting research into cognitive psychology. His current interests involve using EEG and peripheral psychophysiology to study attention and multimodal integration – in particular, how people process visual and auditory information simultaneously. He has been involved in human subjects research for over 20 years and has experience with research ethics procedures and processes in both the UK and USA. He was awarded a BA (Hons) in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford and earned his PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Michigan.
