Abstract

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is becoming popular in designing and constructing buildings. The BIM process is associated with various flow and inputs of information that are provided by the project team. The information can be used throughout the project lifecycle from planning stage to ownership. Various stakeholders who are interested in a project or business can share data through consistent digital model and keeping workflow up to date throughout the buildinglifecycle. By automatically classifying the point cloud, the information can be processed to produce3D model efficiently. A key aspect in an automated scan to BIM leads to developing a model that issimilar to 3D as-built BIM throughoutenhanced workflow. The creation of as-built BIM model is based on point cloud data. However, the traditional method ofthe technology such as drawing measurement is labour intensive and often resultsin misinterpretations. By a scan-to-BIM, the classification of building object of 3D laser scanner is rarely practiced and used in architecture, engineering and construction industry. Therefore, this study aims in developing a 3D as-built based on enhanced and practical workflowwhich is able to enhance the documentation process in building conservation, operation and maintenance.

Biography

Nur Amirah Abd Wahab graduated with a Bachelor of Quantity Surveying (Hons) from University of Technology MARA in 2012. She has been working in the construction industry since 2012, playing an important role as a quantity surveyor in pre and post contract stages at consultancy and contractor firms before entering the teaching profession.Nur Amirah’s interest in BIM was born while she was completing her degree and she has since deepened her knowledge and interest in how BIM is developing in terms of digital design and construction phases and how integrated practices could improve the project outcome. In order to increase her knowledge and expand her skills in BIM tools, Nur Amirah studied BIM and obtained a Master of Science in BIM & Integrated Design from University of Salford, UK.Nur Amirah believes the future of BIM is bright and that it offers the construction industry a big opportunity for positive change, and way to cut costs, time and wastage during a project.
