Purpose of workshop/who it is for/what’s involved:
How and where to publish? This question is often one of the most debated one among scientists. The recent years saw an increase of journals and publishing concepts (e.g. PloS or Frontiers). This changed the publication landscape dramatically, and offered researchers new options. These new publishing models challenged the classical procedures established by publishers like Elsevier and others. To a certain degree these were motivated by the open-science movement, and argued for the publication as open-access. Another development is the publication as pre-print, i.e., uploading the manuscript before publication, or as a registered report, in which the review process takes place before the actual study is conducted.

In this workshop, we will discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of these new publishing models, and how they influence the way we do look at publications. We will end the workshop with a group discussion about publishing “habits” in different fields and schools.
