Lecturer in Psychology | Research Ethics Lead; Community Outreach and Professional Engagement Deputy Lead
Dr Tai Yan Shan completed her doctoral studies at Cardiff University, where she investigated how prior expectations and linguistic framing shaped the interpretation and use of information during goal-directed behaviour. She used semi-immersive and desktop-based virtual environments featuring search-and-rescue tasks to examine how people use information to guide their behaviour under high-pressure conditions. Her current interests focus on the cognitive processes that support adaptive behaviour in dynamic environments, particularly how effort and expectations influence the acquisition, interpretation, use of information under uncertainty.
Yan Shan joined the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading Malaysia in 2026, where she teaches various modules at the undergraduate level. Within the school, she serves as the Research Ethics Lead and the Community Outreach and Professional Engagement Deputy Lead.
