University of Reading Malaysia establishes MOU with Amber Pharmacy

The University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) and Amber Pharmacy Sdn Bhd have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further their commitment to the improvement of public health science by working together on research initiatives, training and development.

A ceremony was held at the UoRM campus in Educity, Iskandar and the MOU signed by UoRM Provost, Professor Tony Downes, and Amber Pharmacy’s Managing Pharmacist, Jayne Wee. The event was witnessed by other representatives of the pharmacy and academics from the Reading School of Pharmacy Malaysia.

The two parties believe the agreement lays the foundations for longer-term university-community pharmacy partnerships.

Dr Samantha Weston, Head of Pharmacy at UoRM said:

“Reading School of Pharmacy Malaysia is delighted to be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with our local community pharmacy based at Anjung, Iskandar Puteri. Amber Pharmacy has been an enormous supporter of the Reading School of Pharmacy since we first arrived in Malaysia, contributing to our Stakeholder Event in 2015 and committing to hosting our students during their upcoming Observational Visits.

“The quality of service provided at Amber Pharmacy and the welcoming, enthusiastic and dynamic problem-solving attitudes of all their staff are testament to great leadership, management and a desire to aid the development of pharmacists of the future.”

Jayne Wee, Amber Pharmacy’s Managing Pharmacist said:

“We are excited to embark on this new programme to help train and mentor the next generation of pharmacists. We are happy to provide the opportunity for students to put into practice the knowledge they have learnt in the classroom and build confidence while working in a professional setting. Our interactions with the team at the University of Reading Malaysia have been very positive and we look forward to further collaboration.

“From communicating with the public to working with doctors, the possibilities of boosting confidence and communications are endless. We carry out research and constantly create unique solutions - as in our motto. It will be a rewarding experience for the aspiring pharmacists as they will be given an opportunity to formulate their own medications.”
