First ever student elections held at the University of Reading Malaysia

Students at the University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) have elected their very first President and Executive Team to the Reading University Malaysia Students Association (RUMSA).

Voter turnout exceeded expectations, with 81% of students from across foundation and undergraduate programmes casting their vote.

The new RUMSA team will represent student views to university leadership and ensure students have the best possible education and experience while studying at UoRM.

Under the guidance and mentorship of Oli Ratcliffe, 2015 President of the Student Union at the University of Reading UK, UoRM students learnt about the election process, including how to produce a manifesto and run a campaign. Students went to the polls on Wednesday 23rd November and results were announced on Friday 25th November.

Professor Tony Downes, Provost of the University of Reading Malaysia said:

“A hearty congratulations to our newly elected student officers. I am sure you will succeed in championing the student voice at UoRM and will set an exemplary standard for future generations.

“UoRM is dedicated to ensuring that students are involved in the decisions that affect the quality of their education and experience. This is an exciting new chapter at UoRM and I look forward to our students becoming more involved in the decisions that affect them.
